National Leprosy Elimination programme phase II is running from the year Ist April 2001. The main objective of the project is to achieve the targets set by the GOI of bringing down the leprosy prevalence rate to 1 or below 1 per 10000 populations.
The prevalence rate of leprosy is 0.84 /10000 population and Annual new case detection rate 9.77 per 1,00,000 population in Jalpaiguri District as on March 2012
OBJECTIVE :
The main focus of NLEP is, on new case detection and reduction of Grad II Deformity, Prompt treatment with MDT and to ensure complete course of Treatment in time.
To reduce the PR of leprosy to 1 or below 1/10000 Population and to bring PR further down.
The ultimate goal of the health services regarding integration of leprosy services to general health services.
Availability of diagnosis, Treatment facilities with MDT free of cost at all health units.
To develop a system where complicated cases are identified, referred & treated by specialist at distt. hospitals.
To extend services to leprosy affected persons regarding prevention of disability & medical rehabilitation.
